Drainage scoria is a lightweight volcanic rock full of open pores, which makes it drain quickly and weigh far less than solid stone. It is the go-to backfill behind retaining walls and around ag pipe in drainage trenches.
Water runs straight through it instead of building pressure against a wall or footing. The light weight also helps over podium slabs and in planter boxes where load matters. Available in 20mm and 10mm.
